LEGAL REGULATION
On May 8, 2014, the Italian Privacy Authority released regulations to identify simplified procedures for providing information and obtaining consent for the use of cookies. This document was converted into the "Cookie Law" on June 3, 2014. With this law, website owners are obliged to obtain the prior and informed consent of users for the installation of cookies used for purposes other than purely technical ones.
WHAT ARE COOKIES?
Cookies are text files containing minimal information sent to the browser and stored on the user's computer, mobile phone, or other device whenever they visit a website. Each time the user connects, cookies send information back to the referring site. Cookies can be permanent (persistent cookies) if they remain on the computer until the user deletes them, or temporary (session cookies) if they are disabled when the browser is closed. Cookies can also be first-party cookies if set by the visited site or third-party cookies if inserted by a site other than the one being visited.
For the purposes of the law, the Privacy Authority identifies two types of cookies: "technical cookies" and "profiling cookies."
TECHNICAL COOKIES
Technical cookies are used solely for the purpose of "carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network or to the extent strictly necessary to the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide such a service" (Article 122, paragraph 1, of the Privacy Code). They are not used for further purposes and are usually installed directly by the owner or manager of the website. They can be divided into navigation or session cookies, which ensure normal navigation and use of the website (e.g., making a purchase or authenticating to access reserved areas); any analytics cookies, similar to technical cookies if used directly by the site owner to collect aggregated information on the number of users and how they visit the site; and functionality cookies, which allow users to browse based on a series of selected criteria (e.g., language, selected products for purchase) to improve the service provided. The installation of such cookies does not require the prior consent of users.
PROFILING COOKIES
Profiling cookies are intended to create profiles relating to the user and are used to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user during online browsing. Due to the particular invasiveness that these devices can have in the private sphere of users, European and Italian legislation requires users to be adequately informed about their use and to express their valid consent. These are referred to in Article 122 of the Privacy Code, which provides that "the storage of information in the terminal equipment of a contractor or user or access to information already stored is only allowed on condition that the contractor or user has given his/her consent after being informed in the simplified manner referred to in Article 13 of the Privacy Code, paragraph 3."
Why Do We Use Cookies?
We use cookies to improve the functionality of our site, allowing users to move easily between pages, remember their preferences, and ensure an optimal browsing experience. The cookies used on our site can be categorized as follows:
ESSENTIALS COOKIES
These cookies are essential to allow the user to move around the site and use the requested services, such as access to protected areas of the site. Essential cookies are first-party cookies and can be permanent or temporary. Without these cookies, users could not access the requested services, and our site would not function correctly.
PERFORMANCE COOKIES
Performance cookies collect information about the use of a site by users, such as which pages are most frequently visited. These cookies do not store identifiable information about individual visitors, only aggregated and anonymous data. We use these cookies for statistical purposes, to understand how our site is used. These cookies can be permanent or temporary, first-party or third-party. In essence, these cookies collect anonymous information about visited pages.
FUNCTIONALITY COOKIES
These cookies allow the site to remember visitors' choices (e.g., username, language, or country of access) and provide more personalized features. Functionality cookies may also be used to provide services requested by the user, such as accessing a video or adding a comment to a blog. The information used by these cookies is anonymous and does not allow tracking of user navigation on other sites. We use these cookies to:
-
Remember if a specific service has already been provided to the user
-
Improve the overall site experience by remembering user preferences
-
These cookies can be permanent or temporary, first-party, or third-party. In essence, these cookies remember individual choices made by users to improve their browsing experience.
GOOGLE ANALYTICS
Our site includes some components transmitted by Google Analytics, a web traffic analysis service provided by Google. These are third-party cookies collected and managed anonymously to monitor and improve the performance of the host site (performance cookies). Google Analytics uses "cookies" to collect and analyze anonymous information about how our website is used. This information is collected by Google Analytics, which processes it to produce reports for our operators on their website activities. This site does not use (and does not allow third parties to use) Google Analytics analysis tools to track.
OTHER THIRD PARTY COOKIES
By visiting a website you can receive cookies both from the site visited ("owners") and from sites managed by other organizations ("third parties"). An example is the presence of "social plugins" for Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, etc. These are parts of the visited page generated directly by the aforementioned sites and integrated into the page of the host site. The most common use of social plugins is aimed at sharing content on social networks. The presence of these plugins involves the transmission of cookies to and from all sites managed by third parties. The management of information collected by "third parties" is governed by the relative information to which reference is made. To ensure greater transparency and convenience, the web addresses of the various information and methods for managing cookies are shown below.
HOW TO MANAGE AND DISABLE COOKIES
The user can decide whether or not to accept cookies using the settings of his browser. Attention: the total or partial disabling of technical cookies can compromise the use of the site functions reserved for registered users. On the contrary, the usability of public content is also possible by completely disabling cookies.
Disabling "third-party" cookies does not affect navigability in any way. The setting can be defined specifically for different websites and web applications. Each browser has different procedures for managing settings. The deactivation of third-party cookies is also possible through the methods made available directly by the third-party company responsible for this processing, as indicated in the links in the paragraph "Cookies used and their purposes > Other third-party cookies".
In the case of services provided by third parties, the User can also exercise his right to oppose tracking by inquiring through the privacy policy of the third party, through the opt-out link if explicitly provided or by contacting the same directly. For information on the cookies stored on your terminal and to disable them individually, refer to the link: YourOnlineChoices.com To delete cookies from the browser of your smartphone/tablet, it may be necessary to refer to the user manual of the device. By using the site without rejecting cookies through the procedures indicated, users consent to our use of these technologies for the collection and processing of information.
